For the Crew That Showed Up All Year: A Better Way to Plan Holiday Gifts

You know the crew I mean. The people who were there for the early starts, the rough weather, the jobs that ran late, and the days that somehow needed three more hands. When the year winds down, “thanks, everybody” deserves a little thought behind it.

That doesn't mean a complicated gift program. It means choosing something useful and making it feel like it belongs to this team. In my world, that usually starts with the artwork—not a catalog page.

Recognition should feel specific

Gallup's research on employee recognition points to a simple idea: people respond when appreciation feels authentic and connected to what they actually did. A gift alone cannot create that feeling. But a garment built around the crew's equipment, work, nickname, or shared milestone can carry a more personal message than a logo stuck on a random item.

Choose the gear around the work and the people

For some teams, the answer is a hoodie they'll reach for on a cool morning. For others it might be a tee, crewneck, cap, or a coordinated set. Think about where people will wear it, what they have liked in the past, and whether the design should be bold or understated.

If your team works outdoors, be practical about conditions. OSHA has guidance on cold-weather layers and workplace cold stress. A branded hoodie can be a useful layer, but it should never be presented as a substitute for required protective clothing or a cold-stress plan.

You asked: Can we reuse our current art?

Absolutely worth discussing. A design your crew already claims as theirs might be perfect on a different garment. We can also refresh it for a milestone or create a new direction. Bring a logo, a photo of a past shirt, or a sentence about what the crew is proud of. We will help figure out what works in the finished piece.

You asked: What do we need to know before contacting Excel?

  • Roughly how many people are you recognizing?

  • What kind of apparel or useful item do you have in mind?

  • Is there a comfortable budget range?

  • Do you have artwork, or should we explore a new idea?

  • What is the date you need the finished order?

Partial answers are fine. We will confirm product availability, pricing, decoration choices, and timing in a real quote. Please don't wait for a perfect size list before starting the conversation.

Make the handoff part of the story

The best version of this isn't just passing out boxes. Tell people why you chose the design. Call out the project, the long season, or the thing your team does better than anybody else. Let the art and the thank-you work together.
